LENORA FORD EASTER YOUNG

BIO:

Coach Young was born and reared on Chicago’s south side. She was introduced to 12 inch fast pitch softball as a Chicago Public School student. There she learned to love the game’s rules, fundamentals, and making a contribution to positive team culture. She has experience as an outfielder, pitcher, back catcher and team captain. Young has continued to play softball in her leisure as a college student and an adult. Her love for the sport and for working with youth caused her to jump at the opportunity to lead the first sophomore girls’ softball team at South Shore International. 

PHILOSOPHY:

• Mental Preparation is the key to being a great athlete

• • - Play with intensity: Give your best effort – use  exceptional focus and concentration
  • - Keep your composure: Stay cool even under pressure
  • - Enthusiasm: Have fun and enjoy softball

• Team pride must be cultivated

• • - Winning is a goal for everyone, but each player should focus on her personal effort.
  • - The harder we work, the more we will achieve as a team.
  • - A team can control their effort, even if they cannot totally control the outcome of each game.

• Softball is all about teaching & repetition

• • - Practice makes perfect: Skills must be taught and repeated until they become natural

• Playing time is earned, not given

• • - It’s determined by attitude, skill level, personal commitment to the team and game/tournament situations
